Fitting with the theme, “The Amazing Place,” Southwest Florida’s own American idol Vonzell “Baby V” Solomon swooned the crowd with her songs at the 24th annual Excellence in Industry Awards gala.

“She tells the story. She followed her dreams and she was a finalist on “American Idol,” out of thousands and thousands of people that tried out. She came in third. She is still singing and her career is taking off in acting,” said Beth Skotzke, the EDC’s events and communications manager.

Showman Jerry Lewis raised $63.7 million on Monday during his annual Labor Day Telethon to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, topping last year's event by nearly $3 million. Vonzell was a performer for this event.
